On a cable phone line?
If cable then get in touch with
the company that supplies you phone service,
either NTL or Telewest.
You just decide which package
is right for you.
On a BT phone line?
You will be using
Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line
or ADSL
You have a wide range of Internet Service Providers (ISP) to choose from.
Capped or Unlimited?
If you want your broadband service to provide faster surfing then a Capped service would be more cost effective.
If you are going to be downloading music and/or video files then you will probably need an Unlimited service.
Cable Hardware
On NTL or Telewest
you are connected to the Internet
by either the set-top-box or a cable modem.
If you have more than one computer you can share the broadband by use of a
broadband router.
ADSL Hardware
Most ISP's' offer a USB ADSL Modem to connect to their service with
but an ADSL Router is a better choice,
it offers better security,
connection to more than one computer
& there is no software driver to install.
Easy Installation?
Setting up Cable or ADSL Broadband can take as little as 5 or 10 minutes BUT, what turns a quick job into a 2 or 3 hour job is an infected or corrupted computer, viruses & spyware can have an adverse effect.
Wired or Wireless for Cable
If your computers are near enough or the cabling can be installed discreetly
then go for a Broadband Router .
If you don't want to run cables around your house or you have laptops then you will want to use a Wireless Broadband Router.
Wired or Wireless for ADSL

Security
Security whilst using Broadband
is very important.
Make sure you have a good anti-virus,
firewall & anti-spyware program.

then make sure you have
Wireless Security enabled.
